These photographs are of people who died during the uprising for independence on 28 September 1810, at the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, Guanajuato, Mexico. Or from a cholera outbreak in 1833. Or perhaps neither. [1] It is believed that the bodies were disinterred between 1865 and 1958.

Photographed at the Museo de las Momias, Guanajuato, Mexico.

[1] According to a sample study by Texas State University-San Marcos academics in 2008 on 22 bodies, the date of death was between 1850 and 1950.
